Misunderstandings Magazine is a Toronto based small press literary journal. We are a quarterly publication that was founded in January 2005. We publish both new and experienced writers and artists, and maintain a strong interest in publishing Canadian writers. We are always looking for innovative work and new voices.

Jim
Johnstone's
first
full length poetry collection, the velocity of escape, is forthcoming from
Guernica Editions in 2008. He is a two time winner of the E. J. Pratt Medal and
Prize in Poetry and his work has recently been published in periodicals such as
The Antigonish Review, Canadian Literature, Descant,
The Fiddlehead, Grain, The Malahat Review and Prairie Fire.
Ian Williams
is
a professor of American Literature at Fitchburg State College in Massachusetts.
He completed his PhD in English Literature at the University of Toronto in
2005. His poetry and fiction have appeared in Callaloo, Carousel, CV2,
Dalhousie Review, Descant, MARGIE, and Pebble Lake Review.
Last year, he held a residency from the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the
Arts in Nebraska.
Visual Editor:
Vicki Sloot
recently completed her Bachelor of Design in Advertising at the Ontario
College of Art and Design and graduated with distinction. She is currently
unemployed and has $10 in her bank account.
Webmaster:
Joseph Yau
is a
graphic designer,
web designer, and
aspiring architect. He is
currently submerged in the M.ARCH program at the University of Toronto where he
tries to find time to freelance design
projects all the while
searching for himself on the web, and in various buildings around the
world.
Cover Artist:
Julie Lottering
is an artist who travels through
life like a message in a bottle. At the moment she is floating in Toronto trying
to plant moments of beauty, grace and freedom. If you see a sunflower in the
city, a poem in a tree or drawing on a table, then you know you've met her.
Contributing Editors:
Julie Cameron Gray
writes a weekly column for the Sudbury Star. Her chapbook, The
Distance Between Two Bodies (2006) is available from Cactus Press and her
work has been published in The Windsor Review, The Amethyst Review,
Harpweaver, and Lichen .
Leigh
Nash
is pursuing her MFA in creative writing and divides her time between scratching
out poems and dreaming of her next vacation. Her work has previously appeared in
The Grist Mill, existere and Verses Magazine.

Devon Gallant operates Cactus Press and
is the founder of Lantern Magazine. His poetry has appeared in
periodicals such as Bleach, Carousel, and Misunderstandings Magazine.
